Saand Ki Aankh song ‘Aasma’: This Asha Bhosle ballad offers hope and promise

The song has been composed by Vishal Mishra and written by Raj Shekhar.

The latest song, 'Aasma' from the upcoming Diwali release Saand Ki Aankh (2019) is a measured but hopeful  ballad featuring singer Asha Bhosle. The 86-year-old singer’s last big song was in the 2017 film, Begum Jaan.

Composer Vishal Mishra’s choice for this number is appropriate. The moving song,  sung from the perspective of two grandmothers wanting the best for their next generation, comes from a place of experience for Bhosle. As Raj Shekhar’s lyrics point out, the sky is the limit.

Bhosle’s dulcet voice adds a balm to Mishra’s composition. With a guitar, flute and a tabla, the composition is simple, yet heartfelt.

In the song picturisation though, both the Tomar sisters-in-law, played by Bhumi Pednekar and Taapsee Pannu, have been barred by the menfolk in their lives to give up sharpshooting, the sport in which they gain fame and acquire many medals. Swallowing up their hopes and dreams, they instead turn their focus to their granddaughters.

The young girls go to a special training facility where they hone their skills. But this separation is not without heartbreak.

Saand Ki Aankh, directed by Tushar Hiranandani, is due to be released on 25 October. Watch the song below and let us know if you are keen to watch the film.
