Box office: War collection crosses Rs225 crore in extended first week

War, starring Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff, has had an excellent run in its extended first week. The thriller, released on the Gandhi Jayanti holiday on 2 October, a Wednesday, has amassed Rs226.50 crore nett in its first nine days at the theatres.

War, directed by Siddharth Anand, broke Hindi cinema's opening-day record when it made Rs51.50 crore. The film kept the momentum going from there on, reaching the Rs100 crore mark in just four days. It enjoyed the benefit of another public holiday on 8 October, Dussehra, grossing Rs27.50 crore nett on the day.

Following this, War had a relative lull on Wednesday and Thursday when it made Rs11 crore and Rs9 crore, respectively. But by then the film had already crossed the Rs200 crore mark.

Trade sources say War has been made on a budget of around Rs150 crore. The film looks set to top the Rs250 crore mark as well. The year's highest Hindi grosser currently is Kabir Singh, which made a mammoth Rs276.34 crore nett at the domestic box office. The second position is held by Uri: The Surgical Strike, which made Rs244 crore nett.

Hollywood film Joker, which was released on the same day as War, has also had a decent run of Rs37.50 crore nett in its extended first week in India.
