The makers of Suriya-starrer Kaappaan (2019) announced today that their film has joined the Rs100 crore club in gross earnings and has emerged as a super hit.

In a statement, Lyca Productions reported that Kaappaan has grossed over Rs100 crore worldwide. The team organised a party to celebrate the success.

Kaappaan review: A dull, long-drawn action film with no soul

Despite scathing reviews from critics, Kaappaan managed to hold its ground at the box-office and is still running in select screens across cinemas.

In the film, Suriya was seen playing a bodyguard to Mohanlal’s character who is the prime minister. Directed by KV Anand, Kaappaan marks the first on screen collaboration of Suriya and Mohanlal.

Suriya is currently shooting for Sudha Kongara’s Soorarai Pottru. The film, based on the life of Captain GR Gopinath – founder of the budget airline Air Deccan, sees Suriya team up with a female filmmaker for the first time.

Suriya also has a film with director Siva in the offing. It will most likely materialise after Siva completes his next film with superstar Rajinikanth.
