Marathi cinema has been exploring various genres ever since its revival after the release of Shwaas (2004). But an action thriller is one genre that doesn’t get explored much, minus a few bad, tacky films.

Director Digpal Lanjekar’s Fatteshikast (2019) is based on the action hero revered by entire Maharashtra - Shivaji. The film is based on a brave mission of the Maratha leader where his army of just 90 soldiers defeat the large Mughal army to capture Pune.

Lanjekar’s debut Farzand (2018), which was on similar lines, also revolved around the story of Shivaji, but its central character was his brave warrior Kondaji Farzand. Fatteshikast, on the other hand, has Shivaji (Chinmay Mandlekar) as the central character. The other difference is that this looks like an out-and-out massy action entertainer, at least from the trailers.

The makers have made it clear in the promos that the film is for the worshippers of Shivaji who, along with action, also love applauding the heroic lines uttered by him and people close to him, especially his mother Jijabai (Mrinal Kulkarni). The only issue is that at times it gets too loud.

Mandlekar and Kulkarni have carried his good work as Shivaji and Jijabai from Farzand.

Fatteshikast also seems to have been shot on a much lavish scale than Farzand. The film will be released on 15 November. Watch the trailer below and let us know if you are keen to watch the film.
