In August, the makers of Boyz (2017) and Boyz 2 (2018) announced their next film in the same league but with a gender switch titled Girlz (2019). While the earlier films revolved around boys and celebrated their youth, this film will likely celebrate sisterhood.
The makers have come up with two bold posters of the film. In one of them, three girls are shown undressing, ready for a swim in the sea. The skin show in the poster is apparent.
The second one shows actress Ankita Lande, who is being launched in the film. Going by how her character is showing two middle fingers and her top reads, ‘#FamilySucks’ it is clear that she is playing a devil-may-care character who doesn’t like being told what to do by her family.
Moreover, her top also mentions the words ‘Ayushyawar Bolu Kahi’ [Let’s speak something about life]. Music composer and filmmaker Dr Saleel Kulkarni has been carrying out musical shows of the same name since years. We wonder if the character is hitting out at the show since it is family oriented.
In today’s times, it is encouraging to see bold content even in Marathi cinema. But the posters released so far give a feeling as if the makers are trying too hard to be bold.
Produced by Everest Entertainment, Girlz is directed by Vishal Devrukhkar, who had also helmed Boyz and Boyz 2. The film is due to be released on 29 November.
