A bald man, Shah Rukh Khan, and fairness creams collide in this hilarious trailer of Amar Kaushik's upcoming film, Bala (2019).

Playing a young man suffering at the sight of his fastly depleting head of hair, Ayushmann Khurrana captures the insecurity, fears, and constant examination that many in India go through. The trailer brings out the actor's courage in playing the part, as well as the promise of a marked social satire through Kaushik's film.

The trailer begins with the sight of a cap-wearing Bala (Khurrana) convincing a classroom full of darker Indian girls why fairness creams will open the door to their marriage. The whole facade collapses when Bhumi Pednekar's character, the rebel, blows the cap of his head and exposes his own insecurity - baldness.

The trailer then fast forwards into Bala's own tale of growing up as a confident young boy, only to find the source of his confidence slowly losing ground. "It is an identity crisis," he screams at one point.

After trying every ridiculous method available, including the now popular cow dung trick, Bala finally chooses a wig. That helps him build a relationship with the fair and lovely Yami Gautam. Except, will he ever tell her the secret? Or does he go through a secret hair transplant?

The trailer builds a mix of drama, satire and humour through some fantastic dialogues by Niren Bhatt. Khurrana looks perfect as the young man struggling with his confidence due to hair loss. From his indignation to surprise, and the joy of getting his hair back, the trailer catches some fine moments.

The dialogues by Niren Bhatt add to the humour. Lines like 'How can Amitabh Bachchan live the life of Avtar Gill?' are a fine touch of filmi humour.

While much is not revealed of Bhumi Pednekar's character, the trailer implies that she might play the woman who questions Bala's own hypocrisy. Yami Gautam plays the other side of the coin, as the woman who actually believes Bala to be the 'hero' she thinks he is.

With a talented supporting cast of Seema Pahwa, Saurabh Shukla, Jaaved Jaaferi, and Abhishek Banerjee, there is enough promise in the trailer to keep audiences hooked to the film.

Directed by Amar Kaushik, Bala is set to release in theatres on 7 November. Watch the trailer below and let us know if you are keen to watch the film.
