Over the weekend, actress Kalki Koechlin shared her happy news. She and her boyfriend of two years, Guy Hershberg, were expecting their first child together.
Koechlin, who is five months pregnant, told HT Brunch in their cover story that the baby is due January 2020. She plans on delivering her child in a natural water birth at a local naturalist birth center in Goa.
“I know that I want to be an engaged parent,” she told the weekly magazine. “My concern is to connect with my child, not to have a particular rule, or expectation.”
She and Hershberg have already decided on a name for the child, which they want to keep private for now.
“I’ve chosen a name that works for either gender and that is representative of a gay person, because I want my child to have that freedom of movement under the many umbrellas of gender that we have,” she added.
Koechlin later shared a photo of herself on Instagram with her baby bump. She wrote, “Relieved I can let that bump hang free after months of stuffing it into costumes which fit me at the beginning of shoot schedules in July but were not so easy to zip up by mid-September!”
The actress has completed a Tamil episodic film by director Vignesh Shivan for a Netflix series, and will take on season 2 of her BBC podcast, My Indian Life. In December, Koechlin will be a part of an all-woman play by Rehaan Engineer, which will be an adaptation of Anton Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya at Goa’s Serendipity Arts Festival.
