The trailer of Sayantan Ghosal’s upcoming treasure hunt film Sagardwipey Jawker Dhan (2019) begins with a narration by Santilal Mukherjee. He introduces the unique substance called the red mercury, around which the new treasure hunt story revolves.
Featuring Parambrata Chatterjee, Koel Mallick, Gaurav Chakrabarty and Rajatabha Dutta, Kaushik Sen, Adolina Chakraborty and Mukherjee, Sagardwipey Jawker Dhan is the second instalment of the franchise that Ghoshal started with Jawker Dhan (2017), inspired from late Hemendra Kumar Roy’s story of the same name.
In both the films, Chatterjee and Chakraborty play the characters of Bimal and Kumar, respectively. Sagardwipey Jawker Dhan introduces the character of Dr Ruby Chatterjee, played by Mallick, who incidentally gets involved in the adventure as well.
It is apparent from the trailer that Ghosal, who has also edited the film as well, has taken the film to a different level in terms of giving a visual treat to the audience. Though it is a first for Bengali cinema, the VFX still seems quite amateurish and suggests that the filmmakers have a long way to go.
However, the trailer is filled with glimpses of adventure in the most challenging scenarios of Thailand. While for Bimal and Kumar, the main objective for finding the red mercury stems from a search for a more eco-friendly alternative for fossil fuel resources, Ruby Chatterjee’s goal is more personal, as she learns that the rare chemical can help her save a young life (Adolina).
While Ramyadip Saha’s cinematography lends a larger-than-life touch to the look of the film, the exotic locations and production design are sure to make the young audience have a good experience while watching the film.
Like most of the treasure hunt stories, Sagardipey Jawker Dhan too has episodes of rivalry that makes the adventurous journey even more exciting.
Sagardwipy Kawker Dhan is slated for release on 6 December.
