Filmmaker Raj Chakraborty released the look of the characters from his upcoming film Dharmajuddha (2020), an out-and-out political drama, over the weekned. Featuring Ritwick Chakraborty, Parno Mittra, Soham Chakraborty and Subhashree Ganguly in the lead, the film explores the issues of communal tensions in the marginalised sections of society.

The character looks are archetypal and their appearances distinctively hint at their religious identities. Mittra can be seen in a hijabi avatar and her character is called Shabnam. Soham plays Zafar and Ritwick’s appearance doesn’t seem to be confusing anymore as it bears resemblance with the attire of the saffron cadres these days. His character is called Raghav, which coincidentally means Lord Ram.

Ganguly, who plays Munni, can be rather seen in a non-glamorous avatar, with no such prominent sign to determine her religion. Veteran actress Swatilekha Sengupta plays the role of a mother in the film.

The character looks reveal more than their religious identities, as the men in the posters seem to be in a heated mood. Munni rather emits innocence while Shabnam stands for strength and dignity. Perhaps, the film also looks into the gender politics and its dynamics through communal tension, the dominant subject of the film.

In an interview with IndianExpress.com, the director stated, "We can see a growing tendency towards violence and unrest around us. I want to explore the grounds that are pushing people towards such attitude through the film."
