The allegations against Amar Kaushik's Bala (2019) just keep coming. The film has now run into a copyright violation allegation from filmmaker Naman Goyal.
Goyal's advocate, GD Bansal, has reportedly filed a suit in a Jaipur metropolitan district court seeking a stay on the film on account of plagiarism of scenes from Goyal's 2010 short film, The Beginning To Get Bald.
IndianExpress.com quoted GD Bansal as saying, "The civil suit seeks damages and permanent stay."
The report also stated that the Jaipur metropolitan district court had issued a notice to Maddock Films Ltd, the producers of Bala, to be present in court for the hearing on Wednesday, 6 November.
Goyal told IndianExpress.com, "I had directed The Beginning To Get Bald in 2010 when I was a student of the New York Film Academy and it was released on Facebook. The movie had also won the award for best short film at the Mini Box Office International Film Festival 2010."
This is not the first allegation of plagiarism against the Ayushmann Khurrana-led film. Earlier in June 2019, writer and filmmaker Kamal Kant Chandra had filed a report against the makers of Bala of copying his story. Chandra has filed a case in Bombay high court and the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court, on Monday, 4 November, had directed the Bombay high court to arrive at a decision by 8 November.
Bala, directed by Amar Kaushik, is set to release in theatres on 7 November.
