Jayalalithaa biopic The Iron Lady not shelved, clarifies director A Priyadarshini

The film, which has been on the floors for over a year now, stars Nithya Menen as Jayalalithaa, who was popularly known as Amma. 

Director A Priyadarshini has clarified via a statement that her upcoming biopic The Iron Lady on former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa has not been shelved contrary to some rumours.

The film, which has been on the floors for over a year now, stars Nithya Menen as Jayalalithaa, who was popularly known as Amma. It spans over six decades covering the entire life story of the visionary leader.

Explaining via a long statement about the time involved in making the project, Priyadhaarashini said, "The film consists of many technical departments operating synchronously towards exploring our creative potential and at the same time refrain misrepresenting the real facts. I’m awaiting dates confirmation from two of the main character cast of the film."

She further wrote: “The cast characters’ reveal is sure to be an interesting and exciting one and definitely worth the wait! It is necessary to wait to fully understand the logic and reason behind the timing of the reveal.”

Meanwhile, AL Vijay is directing another biopic on Jayalalithaa titled Thalaivi, which stars Kangana Ranaut in the lead role. The film also stars Arvind Swamy as MG Ramachandran, former TN chief Minister and actor.

On 24 February, on the 71st anniversary of Jayalalithaa's birth, Thalaivi was announced along with its title and first look poster. To be shot and released in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi, the film is being bankrolled by Vishnu Induri.
