With a growing influx of films arriving from the North East to change the narrative, the Filmfare awards have chosen the city of Guwahati as the destination for their upcoming awards show. The Assam Tourism Development Corporation made the announcement that the annual film awards will take place in the city of Guwahati on 15 February 2020.
The daily Mumbai Mirror reported that the Times Group signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the chief minister of Assam, Sarbhananda Sonowal, to the same issue.
This is the first time the annual Filmfare awards are moving out of the city of Mumbai. Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said, "The Times Group's choice of Assam as a venue proves that we are capable of hosting this big event."
It’s our privilege to bring #FilmfareAwards 2020 to the beautiful city of #Gauhati Thanks to the vision of @sarbanandsonwal who wants to make Assam a hub of south east Asia. https://t.co/NBdPnmJlAE
