Raj Thackeray’s political party Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) is known for opposing the dubbed versions of Hindi films since many years now. They believe that the practice will give competition to Marathi films when it comes to the number of screens it acquires.

However, the party has made an exception for the upcoming Ajay Devgn-starrer Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior (2020). Amey Khopkar, president of MNS Cinema Wing and a film producer himself, shared the news on his Twitter page.

“MNS will continue to object the dubbing of Hindi films in Marathi. But Tanhaji should be dubbed in various languages around the world. By doing this, the world will get to know the achievements of Shivaji Maharaj and his brave warriors. Congratulations to director Om Raut and Ajay Devgn,” said Khopkar.

Following this, Devgn thanked Khopkar by replying to his tweet. "Thank you Ameya & MNS for allowing us to showcase our film Tanhaji in Marathi and Hindi simultaneously. It’s our privilege to be able to share the story of this brave Maratha warrior in his mother tongue as well as the National Language,” he said. The actor goofed up by indicating Hindi to be India’s ‘national language’ since the country has no national language.

The makers of the Sushant Singh Rajput-starrer MS Dhoni: The Untold Story (2016) had decided to release the film in Marathi as well and had also released a trailer in the language. But after MNS strongly objected, the makers dropped the idea of releasing the film in Marathi citing technical reasons.
