Taxes, death, and Tanishk Bagchi remixing songs seem to be inevitable. The composer is at it again with yet another remix, this time for the upcoming Kartik Aaryan-Bhumi Pednekar-Ananya Panday film, Pati Patni Aur Woh (2019).
The song 'Ankhiyon Se Goli Mare' is an upgraded version of the eponymous song from the iconic Govinda and Raveena Tandon-starrer, Dulhe Raja (1998).
There is no specific visual setting for the song, as it is more or less the item song to catch the attention of fans. It does the job with its glitzy visuals, stylised settings, and nostalgic value. The choreography harks back to the 1990s with the multiple costume changes in a single song, as well as colours like lime green and multi-color jackets making it to the screen. Govinda would be proud.
What the 1990s icon might look disappointed with is the choreography. While all three actors seem to turn on the charm factor, the movement seems a little disorganised. While Ananya Panday and Kartik Aaryan still seem to pull it off, Bhumi Pednekar looks a little out of form.
The song is definitely a Kartik Aaryan number, with the actor front and centre throughout. To say that it is a remix would be remiss. Tanishk Bagchi scrupulously avoids building on the keynote of the original. Apart from the refrain of the title 'Ankhiyon Se Goli Mare', the song builds on a fairly new rhythm structure. Peppy and upbeat, the song does have its kicks but is not a smooth dance number worth repeat listen.
Mika Singh does well to infuse the fun and energy into the song. He is backed by Tulsi Kumar in a slightly condensed part. Both singers complement each other well, but it is Singh who stands out with his distinctive voice and style. The lyrics by Shabbir Ahmed are good enough to keep you interested, but nothing memorable.
The trouble is that it will be compared with the original. Regardless of how the song or its visuals have aged, one has to agree that 'Akhiyon Se Goli Mare' remains incredibly memorable. It is going to be very difficult for Bagchi or Mika Singh to overcome the nostalgic hurdle of fans in love with the Anand-Milind number.
In all, this is yet another upgraded, revised, remixed song that harps on past nostalgic value as its USP.
Pati Patni Aur Woh is directed by Mudassar Aziz, and is set to release on 6 December 2019. Watch the new song and the original below and let us know if you would be keen to watch the film.
