The trailer of Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior (2020), which was released today, 19 November, saw Ajay Devgn and Saif Ali Khan sharing the screen after more than 13 years. They were last seen together in Vishal Bhardwaj’s acclaimed Omkara (2006), a film which brought Khan the Filmfare Best Villain award.

Before that, the two actors had starred in Milan Luthria’s directorial debut Kachche Dhaage (1999). During the trailer launch of Tanhaji, Saif Ali Khan recounted the time he spent with Devgn during the shooting of the 1999 movie.

"We had great fun when we did Kachche Dhaage (1999)," Khan recalled. "We had too much fun in Rajasthan and those deserts; lovely evenings. I have always had a really nice time working with Ajay because he is also a very generous actor."

Kachche Dhaage saw the two actors play half-brothers in the film that also starred Manisha Koirala and Namrata Shirodkar.

Not many references available on Tanaji's deportment, says Ajay Devgn

When Khan was asked about his equation with Devgn after all these years, he said, "When we met on the sets for the first time [for Tanhaji], I felt nothing much has changed. Maybe we have become more serious and mature. We have become a bit intelligent."

Khan went on to say that Devgn has always brought out the best in him. "There has never been any stress on the kind of role I have [while working with him]," he said. "I have had the best roles of my career working with him." Khan's Langda Tyagi from Omkara is probably his best known role till date.

Directed by Om Raut, Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior will be released on 10 January 2020.
