The posters of Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior, featuring Ajay Devgn in the titular role and Saif Ali Khan as Uday Bhan, were released some time ago. Now, the makers of the Om Raut film have revealed a few more characters from the movie.
In the all-important role of the Maratha king Shivaji is Sharad Kelkar, known for his roles in Marathi films like Lai Bhaari (2014) and as the voice of Prabhas in the Hindi version of the two Baahubali movies. Kelkar appears simple yet appealing as Shivaji in white attire. The makeup artist has done a great job.
Luke Kenny is a surprise in the role of the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, a boulder in the path of Shivaji and the Marathas. Kenny is almost unrecognizable in the royal attire, which also includes a dagger.
In the role of Shivaji’s mother Jijabai, a lesser known face in the form of Padmavati Rao has been cast. Her attire is also royal, but at the same time it exudes simplicity. The setting of the temple in the background with lamps creates a pretty image.
This is Raut’s Hindi film debut. His first film as director was Lokmanya: Ek Yugpurush (2015, Marathi), a biopic of Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak in which Subodh Bhave played the protagonist.
