There have been quite a few mainstream Hindi films exploring homosexuality. But director Harish Vyas’s Hum Bhi Akele Tum Bhi Akele deals with the friendship between a homosexual man and a lesbian woman.
The film features Anshuman Jha and Zareen Khan and is about their journey from Indian capital Delhi to McLeodganj, the hill station in Himachal Pradesh.
Hum Bhi Akele Tum Bhi Akele will have its world premiere at the South Asian International Film Festival in New York on 22 November at the Friday Night Premier event. The film is also in competition at the festival.
Reacting on the news about its premier, Khan said in an official statement, “I am feeling on top of the world that we will be premiering in New York. It's a film that is very close to my heart and I am really very excited. I hope everyone likes it and enjoys it like we have enjoyed making it.”
Along with giving his reaction, Jha also revealed more about the film saying, “This film discovers and re-discovers the love in friendship. And which better city than the Big Apple, with the worlds largest LGBTQ population, to premiere this film celebrating the community? I am looking forward to the audience reaction there.”
Before this film, Vyas had made Angrezi Mein Kehte Hain (2018) starring Sanjay Mishra, Ekavali Khann and Jha himself.
Hum Bhi Akele Tum Bhi Akele will see its theatrical release on Valentine’s Day 2020.
