IFFI 2019: Pianist Jonny Best to play live music at screenings of Battleship Potemkim, Pandora's Box, Blackmail

The International Film Festival of India (IFFI) will get underway next week, but the announcements from its golden jubilee celebrations this year in Goa keep on coming.

After announcing that popular favourites like Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi (1958) and Andaz Apna Apna (1994) will be shown to the public in free open-air screenings, the festival is introducing a section where classics of world cinema from the silent and the early talkie era will be screened to live music performed by British Film Institute pianist Jonny Best.

The films to be screened include Russian filmmaker Sergei Eisenstein's masterpiece, Battleship Potemkin (1925), German filmmaker GW Pabst's Pandora’s Box (1929) and Alfred Hitchcock's Blackmail (1929).

These film will be screened on 22, 23 and 24 November, respectively. IFFI is also hosting a special retrospective of Oscar-winning films that includes Gone With The Wind (1939), Casablanca (1942), and Lawrence Of Arabia (1962).

The festival, which will be opened by two former superstars, Amitabh Bachchan and Rajinikanth, will be held from 20 to 28 November.
