The teaser of Atanu Ghosh’s upcoming film Robibaar (2019) offers the gist of the story in a few seconds. Initially Robibaar was supposed to be the third film of Ghosh’s trilogy that started with Mayurakshi (2017), featuring Soumitra Chatterjee and Prosenjit Chatterjee in the lead. Another film of the trilogy, Binisutoy features Jaya Ahsan and Ritwick Chakraborty in the lead.
The teaser of Robibaar begins with Prosenjit’s angry rant, as he looks at a mirror intensely and eventually punches it. In the next scene, Ahsan attests his attitude by recalling their past, when she often saw him bursting into fierce fits every now and then. However, Ahsan’s reaction is a lot calmer, compared to Prosenjit’s.
In Robibaar, Prosenjit and Ahsan play an estranged couple, who parted ways in bitterness. Suddenly, they meet on a Sunday (Robibaar) after many years. Both Prosenjit and Ahsan attempt to look into their own lives, through self-assessments, intrigued by the other. While it is evident that Prosenjit’s character has retained a lot of his previous traits, Ahsan has, perhaps, come a long way.
In the next scene, Prosenjit can be seen clinging on to her, holding her hands. In the end, he finally confesses that he is not doing well without her, even after so many years of separation.
There are few other glimpses of Ahsan that suggests Robibaar to be an emotional roller coaster ride for the audience. The background music pervades the teaser with a sombre tone throughout.
Robibaar is slated for release on 27 December. Watch the teaser below and let us know if you are keen to watch the film.
