While Shakuntala Devi: Human Computer (2020) is led by women, the men seem to be coming on board. After Amit Sadh was roped in to play the son-in-law of Vidya Balan's Shakuntala Devi, actor Jisshu Sengupta has now been cast in the role of Paritosh Banerjee in the film.
Banerjee was an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, and was married to Shakuntala Devi for a span of two decades. The couple divorced in 1979, according to reports. In addition to being an IAS officer, Banerjee was the inspiration behind the mathematician Shakuntala Devi's pioneering book, The World Of Homosexuals, in 1977.
Having made a mark in Bengali cinema, Jisshu Sengupta was last seen in Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi (2019) opposite Kangana Ranaut. The actor will also be part of Mahesh Bhatt's upcoming Sadak 2 (2020).
Speaking of the role opposite Vidya Balan, the actor confirmed his involvement in the film and said, "We have started shooting my parts for the film and I have already shot some lovely scenes. Working with Vidya is always so much fun. On set, there isn't a single dull moment when she is around, we're always laughing and joking."
Director Anu Menon said, "In Jisshu, we found our perfect Paritosh Banerjee - a rare mix of poise and intensity. Vidya and he make a wonderful pair - bursting into loud laughter every few seconds - their chemistry is to watch out for!"
Shakuntala Devi: Human Computer is being produced by Sony Pictures Network and Vikram Malhotra's Abundantia Entertainment. The film will release in the summer of 2020.
