Akshay Kumar has been on a film signing spree these past few years. With four releases due in 2020, the actor has just announced yet another upcoming film titled Bell Bottom (2021). Helmed by Ranjit M Tiwari, who made his directorial debut with Lucknow Central (2017), the film is produced under Vashu Bhagnani’s banner Pooja Films.

The film is a spy drama based in the 1980s. Kumar has shared the poster of the movie which has him wearing a brown suit with bell bottom pants. He has a moustache with a determined expression as he leans on an old vintage car. The image of an airplane in the background adds to the intrigue.

Revealing more about the film and its release, Kumar captioned the poster, “Get ready to go back to the 1980s and hop onto a roller-coaster spy ride, BELL BOTTOM! Releasing on 22nd January 2021.”

The have been reports about the film being an official remake of the Kannada film of the same name released earlier this year. Directed by Jayatheertha, the film saw Rishab Shetty play the main lead.

However, Akshay has denied the news and has insisted that his film is an original work. While replying to a fan on Twitter who asked the same, the actor said, “Bell Bottom is not a remake of any film, it is an original screenplay inspired by true events.”

He answered the same to another fan who asked the same question to him on Instagram. Interestingly, the fans are named Shreyas Bhat and Shreyas Kollur respectively.
