Soumitra Chatterjee and Aparna Sen will be seen together in Anumita Dasgupta’s upcoming romantic drama Bohomaan. The veteran duo, who first appeared in Satyajit Ray’s Teen Kanya in the story Samapti in 1961, were last seen together in Suman Ghosh’s Basu Paribaar (2019). Bohomaan also features Bratya Basu, Arpita Chatterjee and Sohaag Sen in crucial roles.
At the poster and trailer launch of the film last week, the director said, “I watched Samapti thirty years back and contemplated to make a film on Mrinmayee (Sen) and Amulya (Chatterjee). I am happy to see a circle forming with this film after thirty years."
Dasgupta further added that the film is not only a love story between two lovers, but it also explores equations between a mother-in-law and daughter-in-law, and a mother and son.
"I would like to call it a film on relationships rather than a love story," Dasgupta clarified, stating that Bohomaan has been a dream come true project for her. "We have attempted to narrate the story in the most simplistic way possible. There is nothing incomprehensible in the film. I have tried my best to portray the daily conflicts in the most natural way."
In Bohomaan, Sen plays Madhuri and Soumitra plays Salim Khan - two lovers, who unite after many years. While Madhuri’s daughter-in-law Joyeeta finds the changes in Madhuri at finding her long lost love adorable, it is her son Subrata, (Basu), who finds it hard to accept, when his mother expresses wish to live with Salim.
The film, with music by Tanmoy Bose, is slated for release on 29 November.
