Shahid Kapoor begins prep for Jersey remake, release set for 28 August 2020

Actor Shahid Kapoor is stepping into his second successive Southern remake after the superhit Kabir Singh (2019). Kapoor's upcoming remake of the Telugu hit Jersey (2019) is slated for release on 28 August 2020.

The actor began preparing for his role by taking to the cricket pitch for some practice hits, and shared a photograph of himself in cricketing gear on Instagram.

Kapoor plays a cricketer who gives up his promising career after he is accused of bribery but takes up the sport once again years later for his young son who wants a jersey for his birthday.

The Telugu hit, which was released earlier this year, starred Nani and Shraddha Srinath. Filmmaker Gowtam Tinnanuri returns to helm the Hindi version, a strategy which worked well for Kapoor's Kabir Singh as well, with director Sandeep Reddy Vanga taking up the Hindi version after his own Arjun Reddy (2017), starring Vijay Deverakonda, became a cult favourite.

The Hindi version of Jersey is due to be released on 28 August 2020. The title and the female lead and the rest of the cast are yet to be announced.
