Filmmaker Vetrimaaran’s Tamil revenge drama Asuran (2019), which features Dhanush in dual roles as father and son, is currently in final leg of shooting.
Over the weekend, reports emerged that Vijay Sethupathi plays a cameo in the film. However, the National Award-winning filmmaker has denied reports roping in Sethupathi for a cameo in the film.
Talking to a leading Tamil daily, Vetrimaaran denied the news and confirmed that the final schedule of the film, which began last week, will go on for 40 days.
The film, which also stars Manju Warrier, is based on Tamil novel Vekkai, written by Poomani. It is tipped to be a revenge drama that traces the fight of an oppressed community against those oppressing them.
While the makers are yet to reveal the rest of the cast and crew, it has however been learnt from reliable sources that popular Tamil director Balaji Sakthivel, known for helming critically-acclaimed films like Kaadhal (2004) and Vazhakku Enn 18/9 (2012), has been roped in to play the antagonist.
Composer GV Prakash Kumar has been signed to take care of music and this will be his fourth collaboration with Dhanush and third with Vetrimaaran.
Last seen playing a local ruffian in Maari 2 (2018), Dhanush will sport a different look for Asuran. It’s after wrapping up this project, will Vetrimaaran return to finish the pending work on the second part of the multigenerational gangster drama franchise Vada Chennai (2018), which featured Dhanush as a carrom player who gets sucked into the world of politics and rowdyism.
Dhanush will also soon resume work on his next project with director Durai Senthil Kumar. Interestingly, he plays dual roles in this film as well.
