Aamir Khan's Laal Singh Chaddha set for Christmas 2020 release

The official Hindi remake of Forrest Gump is to be directed by Advait Chandan and is written by Atul Kulkarni.

On his 54th birthday, [14 March] Aamir Khan had announced his next project Laal Singh Chaddha, the Hindi remake of Academy Award winner Forrest Gump (1994).  The producers Viacom18 Motion Pictures have booked a Christmas 2020 release for their film.  

“Viacom18 Studios is happy to announce Christmas 2020 as the release date of Aamir Khan Productions' Laal Singh Chaddha, starring Aamir Khan, directed by Advait Chandan and written by Atul Kulkarni,” Viacom18 said in a statement. 

Laal Singh Chaddha is to be directed by Advait Chandan and it is written by Atul Kulkarni.  

Not since Dangal (2016) will Aamir Khan have a Christmas release. In 2017, and 2018, Aamir Khan had a Diwali release in Secret Superstar and Thugs of Hindostan, respectively.  Khan’s has a history of doling out Christmas hits – most notably Ghajini (2008), 3 Idiots (2009),  

Directed by Robert Zemeckis, Forrest Gump (1994) is rated amongst the greatest underdog stories of all time. The film was based on the 1986 novel of the same name by Winston Groom. Tom Hanks played the lead character of Gump.

The story covered several decades of Gump's life. He starts off as a poor boy, often mocked for being slow. Gump goes on to witness some defining moments in American history.

Forrest Gump bagged the Best Picture award at the 67th Academy Awards, while Hanks picked up the Best Actor in a Leading Role award. Robert Zemeckis also picked up the Oscar for Best Director.
