Mainstream Marathi cinema has explored newer subjects and tried different genres since its revival in the early 2000s, beginning with Shwaas (2003). But crime thrillers have remained rare, barring exceptions like Rege (2014).
Now, we have another. Abhishek Arvind Kelkar’s Adham, starring Santosh Juvekar, Kishore Kadam and Shashank Shende, offers us a ground-level look at mining scams.
The trailer for the film was released recently and shows Juvekar and Kadam’s characters involved in the murky business. Other than this, the trailer does not reveal much. There is a hint of a war between the gangs of these two characters and the one led by Shende's character.
The topic is novel, especially for Marathi cinema. The trailer also gives an idea that the camerawork is quite creative. The soap operatic effects while displaying the text on screen could have been avoided though.
Adham marks Kulkarni's debut as a director. Before this, he had written Sasu Cha Swayamwar (2013), which starred Vijay Chavan, Bhargavi Chirmuley, Teja Deokar and Pushkar Jog.
Adham is set for release on 28 June. Watch the trailer below and let us know if you would be watching this film in the theatres.
