Geetanjali Thapa wins special jury mention at 2019 Tribeca Film Festival

Actress Geetanjali Thapa has won the special jury mention for her role in Sonejuhi Sinha's Stray Dolls. The film competed in the US narrative section of this year's Tribeca Film Festival and had its world premiere in New York.
Thapa was lauded for her "always surprising and deeply engaging work" by the jury made up of Lucy Alibar, Jonathan Ames, Cory Hardrict, Dana Harris, and Jenny Lumet. The National Award-winning actress stars in the film as Riz, an Indian immigrant in America who works in a motel managed by Una (Cynthia Nixon). Olivia DeJonge and Robert Aramayo are also part of Stray Dolls.
Indian film Aamis, directed by Bhaskar Hazarika, also had its world premiere in competition at the festival.
The 12-day American festival, co-founded in 2002 by actor Robert DeNiro, runs from 24 April to 4 May.
