Rajinikanth returns to Mumbai to commence shooting for Darbar

Darbar features Rajinikanth in the role of a cop. He returns to playing a police officer after 25 years in Pandian (1992).

Superstar Rajinikanth has come back to Mumbai to join the sets of his next film Darbar (2020), which is being directed by AR Murugadoss. The team has returned to the city to commence second schedule of shooting from Wednesday.

Rajinikanth is expected to join the sets from the first week of June. The project, which stars Nayanthara as the leading lady, marks the first time collaboration of Rajinikanth and Murugadoss.

It was recently announced that the film also stars Suniel Shetty as the antagonist while Prateik Babbar also plays one of the antagonists. This project will mark Shetty's Tamil debut and his second southern project after Kannada actioner Pailwan (2019).

Darbar features Rajinikanth in the role of a cop. He returns to playing a police officer after 25 years in Pandian (1992).

Tipped to be an investigative thriller, the entire film will be shot in Mumbai. The film was originally supposed to be bankrolled by Sun Pictures, who backed out after the recent Sarkar (2018) controversy.

Following the exit of Sun Pictures, Lyca Productions, the makers of 2.0 (2018), have taken over the reins of the project and have said to have mounted the project on a lavish scale. This would be the third outing for Lyca Productions with Rajinikanth after Kaala (2018) and 2.0 (2018).

The film has music by Anirudh Ravichander while A Sreekar Prasad has been roped in to take care of editing. Lensman Santosh Sivan is cranking the camera and he has reunited with Rajinikanth after two decades.
