Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s production Malaal was earlier supposed to be released on 28 June. But the film has now been postponed by a week to 5 July. The makers made this announcement on Monday in an official note without giving any reasons.
Malaal was earlier clashing with the Karanvir Bohra-starrer Humein Tumse Pyar Kitna. But as the release date has been shifted by a week, the film is now looking at a solo release.
Directed by Mangesh Hadawale, Malaal is the launch pad for Jaaved Jaaferi’s son Meezaan and Bhansali’s niece Sharmin Segal. Hadawale is known for the directing the successful Marathi movie Tingya (2008).
The film is set against the backdrop of the Maharashtra versus Uttar Pradesh divide that has emerged in Mumbai over the past decade or so because of the politics of the state. It is a love story between Shiva More (Meezaan), a Marathi guy, and Aastha Tripathi (Segal), a young woman hailing from UP. Sameer Dharmadhikari plays a politician who uses the Marathi card to further his career.
Bhansali has written the film and also composed the music for it.
