Two years after it was announced; actor Dulquer Salmaan's Malayalam crime thriller Kurup — based on the life of Kerala’s most wanted man Sukumara Kurup — went on the floors on Sunday, its director Srinath Rajendran revealed.

In a Facebook statement, Srinath wrote, “Grateful to the almighty for this day, on which we announce the good news that Kurup goes on floors from today. We took around 5 years of our sweet time working on this epic and I, personally, thank Dulquer Salmaan for being with us throughout this journey. Details regarding the crew, cast and other details will be announced soon.”

The director also shared a fan-made poster along with his Facebook post and thanked the fan for creating the poster.

The film is based on the life of Sukumara Kurup, a simple family man who, after reading of a crime involving embezzlement of insurance money in Germany, was motivated to insure and script his own death by murdering a man, Chacko, to lay his hands on the money.

Three decades since the heinous crime was committed, Kurup is still at large. Dulquer will play Kurup in the film, which reunites him with Srinath after seven years. They had previously worked together on Dulquer’s first film Second Show (2012).

When the project was announced, Dulquer had said that he was thrilled about the film and could not wait to start shooting.

Dulquer, who is currently awaiting the release of his second Hindi film The Zoya Factor, with Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, also has two Tamil projects in the pipeline.
