With Anubhav Sinha teaming up with Ayushmann Khurrana, Article 15 was always going to be an interesting project.
The teaser for the film certainly holds promise with its mix of a gripping storyline, topical issues and a good leading man. The film is scheduled for release in theatres on 28 June.
The teaser begins with Khurrana's voice reading out Article 15 from the Constitution which prohibits discrimination between Indian citizens on the basis of religion, race, caste, sex or place of birth. This reading is contrasted with violence by mobs on the streets of Uttar Pradesh.
The film offers a topical take on the growing menace of casteist violence. The teaser then shifts to images of political groups trying to gain mileage from such violence with street protests that lead to clashes with the police.
The sight of a burning truck and a screaming Sayani Gupta looking for someone adds to the mystery in the teaser. This is the mystery that Khurrana looks to solve, with all the political and societal pressures on him.
Anubhav Sinha arrives with this film immediately after the critical and commercial success of Mulk (2018), which was also based on the very topical issue of a Muslim family facing discrimination owing to their son's connection with terrorists. That film earned Sinha praise for his discreet handling of a sensitive subject.
Article 15 has Ayushmann Khurrana playing a police officer for the first time, and is set to be released in theatres on 28 June. Watch the teaser below and let us know if you would be keen to watch this film.
