Box office: No cheer for PM Narendra Modi, India’s Most Wanted on first weekend

The Vivek Anand Oberoi-starrer PM Narendra Modi and Arjun Kapoor-starrer India’s Most Wanted have both fared poorly at the domestic box office on their first weekend.

Directed by Omung Kumar B, the biopic of India’s prime minister made Rs9.60 crore nett on its first weekend. The film had opened with a collection of Rs2.35 crore nett on Friday and saw only small increases in the next two days. Sunday was its best day, with a collection of Rs4.25 crore nett.

But the jump wasn’t significant enough. The film, which has a big canvas, has been made on an estimated budget of Rs25 crore.

India’s Most Wanted, helmed by Raj Kumar Gupta, fared worse than PM Narendra Modi. After opening with just Rs1.85 crore nett on Friday, the film saw only a marginal increase in the next two days, making just Rs2.50 crore and Rs3 crore nett, respectively, on Saturday and Sunday. 

Its grand total currently stands at Rs7.35 crore nett. India’s Most Wanted was made on an estimated budget of Rs35 crore. Unless it does exceptionally well in the course of this week, the film is heading for disaster.

Meanwhile, Disney's live-action film Aladdin earned more than the combined total of both Hindi films released with it, making Rs17.85 crore on its first weekend.
