Kabir Singh song 'Bekhayali': Sachet Tandon's ballad on love and separation is pulsating, hypnotic

Composed by Sachet-Parampara, the song has lyrics by Irshad Kamil.

A searing guitar solo, lyrics that play to an emotional chord, and some wonderful singing drive the first song from the Kabir Singh album. Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, the film is set to be released in theatres on 21 June.

The song, sung by Sachet Tandon, is set during the unstoppable downward spiral of Shahid Kapoor's Kabir Singh as he finds himself lost without his love, played by Kiara Advani.

From reminiscing about the romantic highs of his life to finding himself outside a wine shop early in the morning, the young surgeon is well on the way to self-destruction. The visuals paint a vivid picture of Kabir Singh's life after the breakup.

The composition is an earworm from its first chord. Tandon and Parampara Thakur combine to create a composition that is arresting and builds on a layered melody to take it to an operatic high.

The song is a proper romantic rock ballad with its intense lyrics of abstraction and an impressive guitar solo. The composition builds the emotion of the song slowly till its electric guitar solo by Kalyan Baruah.

The lyrics by Irshad Kamil are also a strong point. Evocative and symbolic, they capture the physical and emotional decline of the character, a contrast to the rising and angsty nature of the music towards the end.

In all, the contrast makes for a winning composition, one well worth listening to.

Kabir Singh is a remake of Sandeep Reddy Vanga's own Telugu cult film Arjun Reddy (2015) and features Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani in the lead. The film will be release in theatres on 21 June.
