With so much of the story revolving around the loss of home and family, Ali Abbas Zafar's Bharat has the same feeling expressed in a very vibrant way in its latest song.
'Turpeya', composed by Vishal-Shekhar and sung by Sukhwinder Singh, is a nice, groovy track that adds a Punjabi touch to Salman Khan's Hindi adaptation of a Korean drama.
The song captures the nostalgia that Salman Khan's naval officer feels as he walks down the streets of some Mediterranean cities during his world tour.
The actor plays a man whose life leads him into many adventures. The song picks his experiences as a naval officer on the seas, away from home. It is here that Khan's Bharat picks up the Punjabi tune and shakes a leg with friends.
The expression, though, is far more forgiving than Khan himself. The actor seems a little stiff with the passage of time, and limits himself to structured steps. Most of the song is spent sauntering into the bright sunny camera while showing off the style that defines Salman Khan.
The real dance portion is left to the Morocco-Canadian actress and dancer Nora Fatehi, who makes an appearance as one of the Mediterranean dancers in the song. Fatehi shows her moves off to good effect, but there is too little of her to make a real impact.
The song is pleasant enough and worth shaking a leg to. The pensive lines by Irshad Kamil offset the vibrant, upbeat music by Vishal-Shekhar, making for an interesting combination. With the nostalgic and affecting metaphors, the poetry certainly gets to the emotional core of the traveller. However, the visuals seem to be a little off in terms of the emotional quotient.
Bharat also features Katrina Kaif, Sunil Grover and Jackie Shroff, among others. The film is set for release on 5 June.
