The revamp of Coolie No. 1 (1995), led by Varun Dhawan-Sara Ali Khan, is set to release on the next Labour Day, 1 May 2020. The makers of the film announced the release date today. The film will be directed by David Dhawan, who also helmed the 1995 romantic comedy which featured Govinda and Karisma Kapoor.
The makers also released a first look image, featuring the badge of Coolie No. 1, that symbolises the film. Varun will take on the role that remains a highlight of Govinda's career during the 1990s decade. The film went on to be a hit, and has a cult following.
In a report in the Indianexpress.com, Varun said that the film 'is not a remake'. He said, "I wanted to do this film because when I watched Coolie No.1 I was so entertained. I had such a good time watching it. It is a family film. It is one of the funniest and most entertaining films I have ever watched. It has an amazing screenplay and starred brilliant actors. We are adapting it. It is not a remake."
The film will mark the first collaboration between Varun and Khan.
In addition to Coolie No. 1, Varun also has the dance film, Street Dancer 3D, to shoot for.
