Nana Patekar is playing psychological games to get a clean chit, alleges Tanushree Dutta’s lawyer

Tanushree Dutta’s lawyer Nitin Satpute has clarified that the Mumbai police have not given a clean chit to actor Nana Patekar, who was accused of sexual harassment by the actress.

Interacting with journalists here yesterday, Satpute said, “There were rumours that a clean chit has been given to Nana Patekar by the police, but the truth is that there is no clean chit given to him.

"There is a process that has to be followed by the police where they issue a letter to the complainant about the same. So, these are just rumours and we are going to take action against such rumours.

"Nana is playing psychological games by spreading rumours as he wants to get a clean chit in the case from the police.”

In September 2018, Tanushree Dutta came in front of the media and accused the Welcome (2007) actor of harassing her on the sets of their 2008 film Horn Ok Pleassss. Patekar, after initially dismissing the claim and promising to address a press conference, has been keeping a low profile since.

Satpute claimed that Patekar has been “trying to put pressure on the police and is misleading the case”. He has also questioned news reports claiming that there are no proper witness statements to corroborate Dutta's allegations against the actor.

“Police haven't recorded the statements of the eyewitnesses," Satpute said. "Witnesses are scared to come to the police station as they are under pressure. A police investigation is going on and the matter hasn't gone to the court yet. We are also going to make an application for a narco-analysis test and a lie-detector test of the witnesses who have given negative statements in the police station.”

Dutta's case led to the #MeToo wave in India as it opened the floodgates for numerous other women from every walk of life to come forward with their stories of sexual harassment or worse.
