Shashanka Ghosh's Netflix comedy to star Ali Fazal and Shriya Pilgaonkar

The comedy will revolve around the story of a man who locks himself inside his house to escape the outside world.

With their chemistry on the digital platform working for the Amazon web-series Mirzapur, Ali Fazal and Shriya Pilgaonkar have been cast as the leads for Shashanka Ghosh's upcoming comedy, House Arrest, which will be released on Netflix.

The comedy will revolve around the story of a man who locks himself inside his house to escape the outside world. But as the comedy suggests, things never stay that simple.

The film was part of the lineup announced by Netflix in April earlier this year. While it was announced that the film will be co-directed by Samit Basu and Shashanka Ghosh, there was no confirmation of the leading actors.

The project will also mark a shift for Fazal and Pilgaonkar who have found a new fanbase for their roles in Mirzapur, which featured on the rival platform, Amazon Prime Video.

Speaking about the comedy, Ali Fazal said in a press release, "House Arrest is a fantastic script. It’s witty, very fresh and for me, selfishly the character is very arched and layered. So it was a fun time on sets to play this part. Even though it’s a comedy, it’s complex and I got to go on set every day and do something new and fresh even though, it was all one place."

About working with Pilgaonkar once again, Fazal added, "Working with Shriya is always fun and working the second time with her was a natural comfort that just came without trying."

"Shashanka Ghosh is a genius along with Samit Basu who is the brains behind this venture, they both have such clarity on what they want and how they want it. While they are the leaders of the free world, they also allowed us, actors, to have our freehand to work with our creative liberties too," he continued.

House Arrest is Ghosh's second key foray into the digital platform. The director is also reportedly working on a web-series for the Times Network's OTT. In addition, Ghosh is also directing the Hindi remake of the Hollywood romance, Begin Again (2014).

The crew have already begun shooting for the first schedule for House Arrest last week.
