It looks like a passing grade for actor Tiger Shroff and his latest film Student Of The Year 2 (2019). The Dharma Productions film, directed by Punit Malhotra, earned around Rs12 crore on opening day, according to numbers from BoxOfficeIndia.com.
It is nowhere near the massive opening of Rs25 crore Shroff’s previous release Baaghi 2 (2018) had enjoyed, but the sequel to Student Of The Year (2012) has already beaten its predecessor’s opening of Rs7.50 crore.
The film’s business is likely to be affected by the current Lok Sabha elections, the final phase of the Indian Premier League, and Ramadan in certain areas of the country.
The makers will hope the multiplex audience will turn out for Shroff and the two newcomers, Tara Sutaria and Ananya Panday, over the weekend.
Meanwhile, Hollywood film Avengers: Endgame (2019), featuring a plethora of Marvel superheroes, continues its strong run in India, earning Rs2.75 crore on its third Friday. The film has now made over Rs337 crore nett in 15 days and is on its way to becoming the fifth highest-earning film across industries in India.
