A day after the release of the key character posters for the upcoming Dharma Productions drama, Kalank, there are reports emerging that the film might be released two days earlier, on 17 April. Directed by Abhishek Varman, the film was initially scheduled for release on 19 April.

Tabloid Mumbai Mirror quoted a source suggesting the preponement as a decision to ensure an 'extended weekend' run for the film at the box office. The tabloid quoted the source as saying: "The idea is to capitalise on Mahavir Jayanti as well as Good Friday, besides Saturday and Sunday. It is an extended weekend with two partial holidays."

The strategy is not a new one, as several films, including the recently released Gully Boy opted for a Thursday release to ensure a longer run in to the weekend. However, the fact that Kalank will open on Mahavir Jayanti followed by Good Friday, might see a better vantage for the film.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh also reiterated the news of the date change for the Dharma Productions film.

Featuring Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Aditya Roy Kapur, Sonakshi Sinha, Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit, Kalank is a period drama set around the time of the 1947 Independence and Partition of India and Pakistan.

The preponement of the release will also ensure that the film gets a free run in till 26 April when the Hollywood blockbuster, Avengers: End Game is scheduled to arrive in India.

There has been no confirmation of the report yet from an official source.
