The season of biopics doesn’t seem to end in Hindi cinema. Most of these films are based on famous personalities or celebrities. Now, here’s a film based on former Indian deputy commissioner in Islamabad, JP Singh, who helped rescue an Indian girl from Pakistan in 2017.
Uzma, a resident of south Delhi, befriended a Pakistani man named Tahir in Malaysia and fell in love with him. She travelled to his country only to find that he already had four children from a previous marriage. Uzma was forced to marry him at gunpoint and was later also sexually assaulted.
The film will also feature the character of Sushma Swaraj, minister of external affairs, who played a key role in her return. The director and the entire cast of the film will be revealed later.
The makers met P Singh as part of the research for the film. "Sushma Swaraj and JP Singh were the people who made her return possible. It was important to meet JP Singh and take his inputs. The meeting with JP Singh happened on 22 February,” said a statement from the film's publicist.
The film is written by Ritesh Shah, who has earlier co-written acclaimed and successful films like Airlift (2016), Pink (2016) and Raid (2018).
The yet untitled film is produced by Movie Studioz led by Sameer Dixit, Jatish Varma, Girish Johar and Kewal Garg.
