Director Rohit Shetty is back with another cop entertainer — Sooryavanshi. The film will see Akshay Kumar team up with the filmmaker for the first time, playing Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) officer Sooryavanshi.
The film belongs to the universe of Shetty’s previous cop films Singham (2011) and Simmba (2018). Like Simmba, Sooryavanshi is also a joint production between Shetty and Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions.
The first posters of the film show Akshay Kumar in an action avatar. He looks dashing in the police uniform and dark glasses. The tagline for the film, ‘A bullet for a bullet’, makes it clear that the actor plays a trigger-happy cop.
Akshay Kumar's character is attached to the ATS, hence the film is likely to deal with the menace of terrorism. Shetty’s earlier cop dramas dealt with the political mafia. It seems the scale of this film will be bigger because of its subject.
The climax of Simmba introduced the audience to Akshay Kumar’s character in Sooryavanshi. Simmba also featured Ajay Devgn’s character from Singham in a cameo.
So, is there a chance of Devgn and Ranveer Singh making appearances in Akshay Kumar’s cop world? We will have to wait and watch till Eid 2020 when the film is scheduled to be released.
