Martial arts designer Prateek Parmar rates Abhimanyu Dassani above Vidyut Jammwal, Tiger Shroff

While Hindi cinema makes 'action' films by the dozen, most of the action choreography leaves a lot to be desired. Truth be told, many action sequences in Indian films end up looking like comedy scenes.

Akshay Kumar and Suniel Shetty were Hindi cinema's action heroes in the 1990s, and today we have Vidyut Jammwal and Tiger Shroff, who not only possess good physiques but are also trained in the martial arts.

The improvement in action choreography is also owing to more clued-in action directors and real martial artistes training the actors.

Now, martial arts expert Prateek Parmar's name has been added to the list with his work in designing the fights in Vasan Bala’s acclaimed film Mard Ko Dard Nahin Ha (2019) and his cameo appearance as the villain's henchman of last resort.

While Abhimanyu Dassani has emerged as an action star from his maiden film, actress Radhika Madan and Gulshan Devaiah also sprang a surprise on audiences with their fighting skills. The trio owe a great deal of their success in the film to Parmar, who was the martial arts designer and also their trainer for the film. Those who have seen the film will recall the epic climactic battle between Dassani and Parmar's Samurai.

In an exclusive conversation with Cinestaan, Prateek Parmar shared his Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota experience, explained why he believes Abhimanyu Dassani has an edge over Vidyut Jammwal and Tiger Shroff, and said he hopes this film will change how the martial arts are projected in Hindi cinema.
