Box office: Kesari collects Rs106 crore in extended first week 


Kesari had a good extended weekend where it collected Rs78.25 crore nett. It made Rs27.75 crore nett in the weekdays.

Kesari, the big Holi release, has done decent business in its first extended week. The period war film, starring Akshay Kumar and Parineeti Copra, has made Rs106 crore nett in eight days, as reported by Boxofficeindia.com.

The Thursday collection stood at Rs6 crore nett, taking its India business so far to Rs106 rore nett. Kesari had a good extended weekend where it collected Rs78.25 crore nett. It made Rs27.75 crore nett in the weekdays.

Made at an estimated budget of Rs100 crore nett, Kesari was released on 3,600 screens in India and 600 overseas. As per trade sources, producer Dharma Productions has a Rs65-crore combined satellite, digital and music deal with Zee.

The film is based on the 1987 Battle of Saragarhi that was fought between 21 Sikh soldiers and over 10,000 Afghan tribesmen.

Another Holi release, Mard Ko Dard Nahin Hota producer Ronnie Screwvala is involved in a dispute with leading exhibitors over the issues of virtual print fee. That resulted in the film getting only 375 screens. Made on an estimated budget of Rs15 crore, the film could collect only Rs1.5 crore nett in its first five days despite good reviews and word-of-mouth publicity.

Meanwhile, holdover releases Badla and Captain Marvel have entered their fourth week. Badla, starring Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu, made Rs10.75 crore nett in its third week. Badla has made Rs77.52 crore nett in its domestic business.

Produced by Red Chillies, Badla was released on 1,000 screens in India. The film is a hit as it was made at a modest budget of Rs24 crore.

Hollywood film Captain Marvel made Rs5 crore nett in its third week to take its India box office business to Rs82.66 crore nett.
