South Indian actor R Badree is the latest addition to the long cast of Kabir Khan’s '83. He will be playing the role of the bowler Sunil Valson in the film. The makers made the announcement on their official Facebook page. The film will recreate India’s 1983 cricket World Cup journey and their historic win as the underdogs.
Valson was a left arm fast bowler during his time. He hailed from Secunderabad in Andhra Pradesh. He was the only player from the Indian squad who didn’t play a single match in the entire World Cup tournament. In fact, he never played a single international match in his career. He had an impressive domestic record of taking 212 wickets in 75 matches for the teams Delhi and Railways.
Just before the 1999 World Cup, a friendly match between India’s 1983 World Cup team and then current 1999 team took place in Mumbai. Interestingly, Valson played that match as all the players from the 1983 team weren’t available.
Valson is currently the coach of the team Delhi Capitals in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL).
'83 will see Ranveer Singh essaying the character of all-rounder Kapil Dev, who captained India to victory. Pankaj Tripathi will be playing team’s manager Man Singh. Interestingly, actor Chirag Patil will be essaying the role of his father and all-rounder Sandeep Patil.
