This will be the second time a Rajinikanth film will be shot majorly in Mumbai after Kaala.

It is already known that actor Rajinikanth is all set to team up with filmmaker AR Murugadoss next for a yet-untitled Tamil project, which will mark their maiden collaboration. While the project is yet to be officially announced, reports have already emerged that it might go on the floors on 10 April and is expected to be predominantly shot in Mumbai.

This will be the second time a Rajinikanth film will be majorly shot in Mumbai after last year's release, Kaala.

Tipped to be a political thriller, the film will be bankrolled by Lyca Productions. Sun Pictures was originally supposed to produce, but they chose to opt out of the project after the Sarkar (2018) controversy.

Meanwhile, rumours suggest that the makers have signed Nayanthara and Keerthy Suresh as the leading ladies. Even though an official announcement is yet to be made, reliable sources have confirmed that both the popular actresses have already signed on.

Recently, popular lensman Santosh Sivan revealed that he is thrilled to be signed for Rajinikanth’s next film. He took to Twitter and wrote: “Finally, very excited to work with Rajini sir after Thalapathy."

Currently dubbed as Thalaivar 166, the film will mark Santosh's reunion with Rajinikanth after Mani Ratnam’s Thalapathi (1991). Anirudh Ravichander, who impressed fans with his terrific work in Petta (2019), has been once again finalised to compose music.

This would be the third outing for Lyca Productions with Rajinikanth after Kaala and 2.0.

The makers are yet to officially reveal the rest of the cast and crew.
