Such plans were tested earlier in other countries like Malaysia.

OTT giant Netflix has started testing a cheaper subscription plan in India for Rs250 a month. But users opting for this plan will be able to view content only on mobile phones and the picture quality will be SD only.
A Netflix spokesperson confirmed this in a media statement. “We will be testing different options in select countries where members can watch Netflix on their mobile device for a lower price and subscribe in shorter increments of time.”
The basic plan for users in India costs Rs500 a month.
However, the test plan may not be available to everyone and might be discontinued later. “Not everyone will see these options and we may never roll out these specific plans beyond the tests,” added the spokesperson.
The idea is to move ahead in the race among the plethora of OTT platforms in India. Competition is stiff with several other OTT players like Amazon Prime Video, Hotstar and Zee5 also making inroads.
Netflix tried the mobile-specific plan in Malaysia and a few other countries last November. The company is yet to role out this plan anywhere.
