Chhapaak first look: Deepika Padukone makes her mark as Malti

As the Chhapaak crew begins filming today in New Delhi, the first look of the lead actress and producer, Deepika Padukone, was revealed. The release date was also unveiled simultaneously. The film will arrive in theatres on 10 January 2020 to kick off the new year.

Padukone stars as Malti in a story inspired be real-life acid attack survivor, Laxmi Agrawal, who became an activist to speak out for other acid attack victims. The film also stars actor Vikrant Massey as Malti's partner.

The actress who shared the first look online, said her character Malti "will stay" with her forever. Padukone's look is achieved through prosthetics and makeup, but her features can still be distinguished.

The film's director, Meghna, referred to Malti as "courage" and "hope". While Massey said Malti could be you or me.

Chhapaak is jointly produced by Fox Star Studios, Padukone's KA Entertainment, and Meghna's Mriga Films.
