Varun Dhawan recently announced that he is starring in his father’s next, which is the remake of his own film Coolie No.1 (1995). He will be playing the role originally essayed Govinda in the original. It has now come to light that Sara Ali Khan is cast opposite him.
It’s official! Varun to star in remake of father David Dhawan's Coolie No. 1
Farhad Samji, from the writer-director duo Farhad-Sajid, shared the news with the daily tabloid, Mumbai Mirror, while speaking about the pros of working with Varun again. “It is a boon for any writer to work with a dedicated actor like Varun. I narrated the dialogue draft to him recently and he immediately asked me for a copy, so he could rehearse his lines even though there is still time for the film to go on the floors. I am looking forward to teaming up with Sara for the second time,” he said.
Farhad-Sajid were the writers for Sara’s last hit Simmba (2018). They have worked with the father-son duo of David and Varun previously in Chashme Baddoor (2013), Main Tera Hero (2014) and Judwaa 2 (2017).
This is the first time that Varun and Sara are paired together and the second time that Varun is teaming up with his father for a remake of his own film after Judwaa 2.
Farhad also shared that his association with David goes a long way. It was the filmmaker who gave him and Sajid their first ever break as lyrist in his film Hum Kisise Kum Nahin (2004) for the song ‘Ae Munna Mobile, Ae Pappu Pager.’
Coolie No 1 was about a coolie Raju (Govinda) impersonating a wealthy industrialist after a matchmaker Shaadiram Gharjode (Sadashiv Amrapurkar) decides to get even with the super rich Hoshiarchand (Kader Khan) for a past insult.
