Actress Deepika Padukone and actor Vikrant Massey are gearing up for the filming of their next Chhapaak after having completed the first script reading on the project. Co-produced by Padukone and director Meghna Gulzar, the film will the story of Laxmi Agarwal, an acid attack survivor who became the voice of survivors across India.

The team, who seemed to have bonded quickly, ran through the first reading of the script. Meghna's father, veteran filmmaker and lyricist Gulzar also joined them at the reading.

From the pictures above, the setup is just like one on any international project with the whole cast and crew assembled to run through the film script. Padukone is set to play Agarwal, while Massey is playing Alok Dixit, Agarwal's partner.

At the Zee Cine Awards 2019 last night, Padukone picked up the Best Actress award for her role in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmaavat (2018) and told reporters at the event, "It's so ironic that on the day of Holi, I am off to Delhi for the shooting of Chhapaak. We will start shooting it on Monday. It's a very important film and I feel that the story which we are showcasing in our film needs to be told."

Chhapaak, which begins filming on 25 March, is due to be released in the second half of this year.
