Luka Chuppi, starring Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon, has opened to a positive collection at the box office. Directed by Laxman Utekar, the film earned Rs7.75 crore on its opening yesterday in India, as per figures shared by Boxofficeindia.com.
The film was expected to do well after the rise in Aaryan's popularity following the success of Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety (2018). The film, directed by Luv Ranjan, became a surprise blockbuster that crossed the coveted Rs100-crore figure.
Luka Chuppi review: Kartik Aaryan, Kriti Sanon hold their own in a fairly entertaining comedy
Luka Chuppi is made at a moderate budget of approximately Rs25 crore and released on 2,100 screens in India and 400 screens overseas. Even if the film takes a good weekend jump today and tomorrow [Sunday], the producers will be in safe waters.
Abhishek Chaubey’s Sonchiriya, which was also released yesterday, opened to a low number.
The film, starring Sushant Singh Rajput, Bhumi Pednekar and Manoj Bajpayee, made only Rs1 crore on its opening day. The niche subject and lack of publicity could be to blame for the appalling collection.
Sonchiriya review: Sushant Singh Rajput, Bhumi Pednekar's gripping but deadly tale
The film's budget is approximately Rs25-30 crore and it was released on 700 screens in India. Sonchiriya has mostly received positive reviews, as well as word-of-mouth. The makers will hope the reviews will propel the film's business over the extended weekend. Monday is a public holiday on account of Mahashivratri.
